Gewehr 1888
Germany's first repeating rifleDetails
The Geweher 1888 was the first smokless powder repeating rifle adopted by the German Empire. The original version used five round en-bloc clips, though an updated version, the Gewehr 88/05 used the same five-round stripper clips as the later Mauser rifles. The Gewehr 1888 was used as a rear echelon rifle in WWI, and the Hanyang 88 version of it had been adopted in the Republic of China as their main infantry rifle.
