The rifle was developed in the early 1980s as a pure sniper rifle for the British Army was to replace the old Enfield chambered in 7.62mm NATO, the aging L42A1. Chambered in 7.62mm NATO, the rifle takes a 10 round magazine, has an integral monopod and bipod for stable firing, as well as hidden rails at the top and bottom for additional attachment mountings.

The rear sight can be folded down by pressing on it, the rear diopter can also be moved up or down to adjust your zero-ing.
