Sound rework for the Company's Autopilot Ship (Work In Progress)Immersive Ship SFX (WIP)
You're on a Company-issued automated interplanetary cargo lander. It should sound like one.
Ever felt that the Autopilot Ship's sound effects (and some others relating to it) were "lacking" something?
This is my attempt at making that soundscape feel more immersive and grounded, whilst staying aligned to the original style of Lethal Company.
My personal goal with the sounds is to be "noticeably there, but subtle enough to not be disruptive or annoying".
[Please Note] This is a Work-In-Progress release so I can test with other players and get some feedback. Some sounds are subject-to-change, and some may be added/removed throughout development. Expect frequent updates and potential bugs/issues until the mod is in a stable release state.
List of Changed Sounds (Expand me!)
- CupboardClose/-Open ⇒ Improved sounds for the red metal cabinet.
- DeadlineAlarm ⇒ Industrial alarm with an "Airlock Cycling" voice alert, to justify the method by which the company "replaces" you and cleans out the ship for the next crew.
- FiredVoiceline ⇒ The initial part about not meeting profit quota got cut, to line it up with the sound above. Still has same meaning though.
- ShipAmbianceLightSqueak ⇒ That horrible squeak is gone now: it has been replaced with an assortment of random ambient creaks, groans, beeps and air noises that work better.
- ShipAmbianceTurbulence1 ⇒ This one also got replaced with a better ambient rattling sound.
- ShipFlyToPlanet ⇒ Flying to another moon/planet sounds like an actual maneuvering thruster burn now.
- ShipThrusterAmbiance & ShipThrusterClose ⇒ The ship & delivery rocket thrusters now sound like an actual rocket engine.
- StartGameLever ⇒ The Brake Lever Sounds like a proper throttle lever now.
- SuckedIntoSpace ⇒ Sounds like an actual space airlock purge now.
Why did I make this?
I always thought that the Autopilot Ship's sound effects were a bit "weak/boring".
Sure, there is LethalResonance/LETHALRESONANCE - which, credit to that team, is a fantastic complete sound overhaul. I just personally feel that it has a bit too much change from what makes Lethal Company, well, Lethal Company. And setting up the config for excluding half the sounds is a hassle, since I think most of the other sounds in LC are fine. Still, LR was a major inspiration, and some sounds in this mod do come from it (though mostly as placeholders, until I make my own).
Then there is Ghostly2243/ShipAmbientSoundsRevamped/ - a great mod, but which has some sounds that are far too loud and obnoxious (such as "jumpscare"-volume steam pipe sounds). Again, a major inspiration, and the source of some of the creaking noises.
Anyhow, given my prior experience making GlockInMyJester using the CustomSounds Framework, I figured: why not make my own immersive ship sound mod and address the issues myself? After all, I've played enough similar games to know what things should sound like. So here we are - though keep in mind, I chose/made the sounds based on personal preference.
Ideas for Future Content:
The mod, as it stands, is a work-in-progress.
No idea if I'll get around to making them, but here is some stuff that might get added in the future:
- Various company "propaganda" voicelines? (assuming I can replicate the original voice/filter)
- Various flavour text notifications/alarms?
- Example: "incoming meteorite" alarm & associated impact sounds?
Compatibility:
- ❌ LethalRESONANCE: Likely incompatible due to sound overlap.
- ❌ ShipAmbientSoundsRevamped and its predecessor(s): Likely incompatible due to sound overlap.
Any mod that doesn't replace the sounds listed in the dropdown menu above is probably fine.
Sound Credits:
This mod would not have been possible without the original sources below:
- Ghostly2243/ShipAmbientSoundsRevamped/
- LethalResonance/LETHALRESONANCE
- Katniss's Parts Pack (KSP Mod) & KW Rocketry Sound Effects
- Stationeers (Game)
- Alien: Isolation (Game)
- Various public domain sounds used for intermixing/layering
Feel free to fork/adapt as long as proper credit is given to me & the sources above:
