The MP18 was the first general-issue SMG, and was upgraded and modified in the interwar years. It became the basis for several SMGs used thereafter.

The Lanchester was a copy of the MP28 used by the British Royal Navy and came standard with a 50 round magazine, interchangeable with Sten mags.
The MP28 is an improved version of the MP18 and has a fire selector.
The SIG M1920 is an improved version of the MP18 made by the Swiss. It is chambered in 7.62x25mm Mauser and comes with a 50 round magazine.
