The L42A1 was an adaptation of the Lee-Enfield Rifle built after WWII; this was a dedicated sniper rifle after the Lee-Enfield had been replaced in the role of main service rifle by the L1A1 (the FN FAL). The L42A1 itself would not be replaced until the adoption of the Artict Warfare sniper rifle.

Also, this rifle is rechambered in 7.62x51mm NATO.
